School is not just about literacy and numeracy. It is about more than academics and providing opportunities for students where they can share a common experience while growing into young adults, learn about success through hard work and even defeat, perform in front of a big cheering crowd, and for the very lucky, score a winning shot. This premise was the driving factor for the MAPEH Department to put a concerted effort when it spearheaded the conduct of the Intramural Meet 2019 on July 25 – 27, 2019 at Zamboanga Del Norte Sports Complex, Estaka, Dipolog City. This annual multi-sport event featured 17 popular sports which saw around 400 student-athletes in action battling it out for supremacy in the medal standings and ultimately for a much higher reward, a slot, and the bragging rights to represent Zamboanga Del Norte National High School (ZNNHS) in the District Meet 2019.
Traditionally, the event started with a parade with ZNNHS band leading the way followed by the athletes and students alongside their respective advisers and coaches. Tailing along behind them were the technical officials, and non – advisers. The parade wound up at the venue’s activity center where all stakeholders numbering around six thousand converged for the opening program in which Dexter A. Elumba, SHS Assistant Principal II, laid down the rationale of holding an annual intramural meet in his opening remarks. It was then followed by the message of the guest speaker delivered by Crispo V. Gahisan, SEPS for Social Mobilization, as representative of Ronillo S. Yarag, EPS – LRMDS and Division Sports Coordinator, who could not make it due to conflicting schedules. Gahisan fired up the athletes with a rousing message that put emphasis on discipline, hard work, and excellence as prerequisites toward achieving success. Another prominent supervisor from the division office whom the ZNNHS community was very grateful for her presence was PSDS Joy O. Campiseño. The program wrapped up with a message by Adrian G. Refugio, OIC – School Principal, stressing the significance of intramural meet on the personality development of all participating athletes.
After three days of grueling competition, team Grade 10 lorded it over with 49 golds, 30 silvers and 23 bronzes, thereby declared as the champion of the aforementioned event. Trailing them close behind was team grade 9 with 40 golds, 35 silvers and 15 bronzes securing them a 2nd place finish. Team grade 11 emerged as the 3rd placer with 23 golds, 15 silvers, and 19 bronzes while the grade 8 made it to top 4 courtesy of their 15 golds, 18 silvers and 20 bronzes. With height disadvantage and less experience, team grade 7 had to settle for 5th place with only 9 golds, 15 silvers and 10 bronzes.
The ZNNHS Intramural Meet 2019 concluded with Vicente S. Gallemit, Jr., Head Teacher IV in MAPEH, formally closing it by expressing his gratitude to everybody who in one way or another contributed to the success of the said event. He further went on to accentuate that the huge success would have never been possible had it not been for the collaborative effort of all the stakeholders; the athletes and students, the GPTA, and the men and women of ZNNHS.
